Frequently Asked Questions

FIRST AND FOREMOST OUR CLASSES NEVER CANCEL. I WILL AlWAYS GET a SUBSTITUTE INSTRUCTOR WHEN NECESSARY.

How do I book a Private lesson with Isabelle?
Please send me an email with your availability and your best times to meet in order of your preference. I will adjust to your schedule for this is my full time career. I have daytime spots and afternoons available, then some evenings like Tuesdays and Fridays and again daytime on the weekends. You choose what works for you and email that, and then I write back to you with the confirmation. I usually need a week advanced notice and I do have a 24 hours cancellation or re-scheduling notice. This means you need to do that with 24 hours advanced notice to cancel or re-schedule. Lessons are $85.00 an hour for 1 or 2 people with myself or the other instructors.

How do I book a private with Reiko, Kirsten or Ricky?
Same thing send me your availability and the instructor of your choice will contact you directly after that.

What happens if I miss the novice beginner sessions at SMC? When is the next class that I can take?
Every Sunday at Casa Escobar we offer a novice-beginner lesson that starts from "0" with Reiko. Any and every Sunday

What is the appropriate dress to wear for a Salsa type event?
Anything that you are comfortable in or that makes you feel good.

What do you recommend I should do to get started in dancing salsa? For example, should I just go and watch, or take a class and jump in there?
It is always a good idea to take a class so that you can feel more confident that you know what you are doing.

During your classes on Sundays, do you need to bring a partner along?
A partner is suggested but not necessary for ANY of our classes.

How I should dress for Salsa Class?
You should wear something comfortable and fresh. We do sweat and work out on the footwork part of the class. As far as shoes, wear either dance sneakers, high heels, or regular leather bottom street shoes. Ladies keep in mind that any shoe should wrap around your ankle. No sandals! You can buy dance sneakers at the Dance Store on Rose Ave between 4th and 5th. Tell Jenny you are my student and she will give you a discount.

Can beginners come to an intermediate level class like the Monday or Wednesday at the Academy?
Beginners must take a beginner class with us before coming to intermediate. In intermediate we only work on combinations. We teach the footwork for all the foundation footwork for partnering in beginning classes. IF you are lady and you have been dancing salsa for a while but not have been taking classes, then it is okay to join an intermediate lesson.

I noticed that you have intermediate courses on Mon and Wed, is that something that must be paid in advance for a certain numbers of weeks or can students drop in whenever they want?
Both these classes are drop ins. That means that you can take a class anytime or whenever you can make it. You can show up and take class anytime, learn a new combination each week and show up again whenever you want to come back. Commitment free! We do offer a discount package for those people that want to come every week on the first meeting of each month, which is good for that current month. You may purchase 4 Mondays of an hour and half for $60.00 or 4 Wednesdays of two hours and a half for $70.00
